Tube line inspection by crawler
For the running and inspecting of tube lines from 6” to 8” so-called cable-linked crawlers can be used.
Delta Test is doing such inspections regarding wall thickness reduction, surface defects and defects in grinded austenitic weld seams and others in close cooperation with the company
IBASS.
The crawlers in the diameter range from DN 80 to DN 800 can surmount both vertical track sections and divergencies. In this connection they can exactly be controlled and positioned.
The modular extruder heads allow the operation of different tools (can partly be combined):
• eddy current inspection sensor system
• videoscopy
• grinding tools
• cleaning and suction
• colour infiltration inspection
During the run through the tube line the eddy current inspection head is rotated at the same time so that a complete detection of the inner surface will be achieved.
The inspection results gained that way are depicted by a C-scan and evaluated (
see figure), whereupon defects from a depth of 1 mm can be identified independently (!) from their orientation. Furthermore the simultaneous operation of a 0° or 90° video system is possible.
The control of the crawler permanently provides the necessary position signals, whereby the results become reproducible at any time.
